AIESEC Rotterdam discusses mutual (urban) learning with other AIESEC offices

Rotterdam , Netherlands

A one-day virtual event with AIESEC entities around the world about sharing knowledge on sustainability, inspiring each other, and sharing existing actions in different cities. Initiated and organised by AIESEC Rotterdam in collaboration with Closer Cities. The event will take place on Thursday 20 May 2021 from 20:00 - 21.30 p.m. (CET).

Local AIESEC offices from Rotterdam, Bucharest, Kilimanjaro-area, and Pavia will meet online and discuss the topic: how to contribute to sustainable solutions in the local community? And what can we learn from projects in other cities?

Background

In order to realise the SDGs by 2030, we need to scale up. The UN was very right when they declared the 2021-2030 period as the ‘decade of action’. One way of giving a boost to ‘action’ is to make great existing actions more visible. To inspire others, and to show appreciation to those who deserve it. There are numerous great projects all around the world. At the same time, many projects remain unnoticed. This is more than just a pity, it’s actually inexcusable. Why? Since it results in suboptimal progress, and a waste of time, energy, and money. The main goal of the event is therefore to give this 'decade of action' a boost.

Course of the event

The event will exist of two different parts. In the first part, participants will be allocated to break-out rooms with people from different cities to answer some questions and share their thoughts on sustainability. In the second part, each AIESEC entity will get the chance to share what their entity is doing in terms of sustainability and will share 3-5 sustainable projects in their city that could be implemented somewhere else. This is the most important part where we hope to inspire each other and to find some projects that can be implemented in other cities as well!
