Utrecht has completed the wide-scale installation of green roofs on its bus stops. Green roofs capture particulates, store rainwater, provide cooling and promote urban biodiversity. All of these are extremely beneficial for insects like (bumble)bees. The bus stops directly contribute to a healthy urban living and they help raise awareness.

316 bus stops with a lovely sedum-covered roof. There are also 96 bus stops outfitted with solar panels. All got LED lighting and a bamboo bench. Due to the tender, the project will not cost the municipality anything. The green-roofed bus shelters have generated a great deal of positive national and international publicity. It almost seems like sedum-roofed bus shelters are becoming a new standard in cities. Residents and companies like to install green roofs on their premises.
From the countless responses, we can see that an, essentially small, provision like a sedum-covered roof on a bus shelter really "impacts people". It makes people happy and enthusiastic, and encourages them to do something for nature. This is undoubtedly a boon for healthy urban living.
There are also no costs involved for the government and it is easy to do. In general roofs are unused at the moment and with a small adjustment people can bring a bit of nature back.
Have a look at the goals you want to realize. Will you for example make a natural statement or do you want to go for a more fundamentel approach. You can go for a sedum roof, but with some small adjustments it is also possible to create a solar panel roof or a mixture of both. You can also support sedum roofs more by making if financially attractive for inhabitans to follow the idea on their own premises.
