Online/home based Provision Of learning materials

A program formulated my universities students in response to COVID19 to help high school students and primary kids continue learning from home while schools remain closed to minimize the spread of corana virus.

Why was this project started?

To respond to academic need of students to continue learning from home so that they don't forget totally what they learnt in school and mostly the final year candidates to revise for their coming end year examination which determine their transition to the next level of Education.

The results of the project so far

The project has reached over 250 Mathare Slums students who keep in touched with the tutors from various Kenyan universities and professional teachers via the internet through whatsApp and zoom classes, other have resorted to physically attend their classes in a safe place just to learn, this is because we noticed not every child could access a learning gadget to access the online materials.

What are specific, distinctive, strong elements in this project?

University Students and professional teachers giving back to Mathare Slums community.

Which specific lessons, do's and don'ts would you like to share? What would be suggestions for others when preparing or implementing the project in their own city?

Major challenges include many learners in Mathare Slums in Kenya can't access learning gadgets on the internet to help them learn from home.

Also we are faced by lack of ream papers and ink to keep printing enough revision questions for the students.

Have others adopted, or shown interest in adopting, your idea in their own area?

The approach has been adopted by various organizations who are now providing a safe place within their organizations to enable kids continue learning from home while schools remain closed
